1. What Is a Functional Curriculum Vitae?

A functional curriculum vitae can be very helpful to applicants who have a stronger set of competencies rather than work experiences. There are a lot of entities that can make use of a functional curriculum vitae to their own advantage. A functional curriculum vitae can be characterized as follows:

  1. A functional curriculum vitae is used by an applicant who does not have an impressive line-up of work experiences. It is very essential for this type of applicant to compensate for the lack of a strong professional background by providing information about their other qualifications.
  2. Technically, a functional curriculum vitae is the kind of formal curriculum vitaethat lists down the skills, abilities and other competencies of an individual at the beginning of their professional profile.
  3. The CV format template that is applied in a functional curriculum vitae can still list down the professional work experiences of the candidate. However, this list is usually placed in latter parts of the executive curriculum vitae template to further focus on other discussions.

There might be certain limitations to the usage of this type of CV, especially when it comes to jobs that are in need of experienced workers. Otherwise, this CV can emphasize an applicant’s strengths.

What is the Difference Between a CV and a Resume?

When detailing your professional qualifications, your choices include a CV or a resume. They may have similar goals regarding your career development, but there are differences.

  • Length, as resumes are more concise, as you may see in a HR resume template, while a CV can go for several pages.
  • Content, since resumes concisely summarize your qualifications; while CV’s have a focus on your academic background, enough that it can go into great detail.
  • Scope, because while this can be added on both, CV’s are better suited for jobs in the academe, making academic curriculum vitae templatesa useful tool.

What to Include in a CV Format

As such, there are some elements that are uniquely found in a CV, that you may not find in a resume template, like teacher resume templates. Among these are:

  • Academic awards are one thing you may add in a CV.
  • If you had any publications, such as news articles, or books and theses, include those as well.
  • Any teaching and research experience would definitely help.

It does still help to follow a particular pattern with your CV, such as chronological order as with chronological resume templates.

And that’s exactly why it’s important that you’re able to come up with a document which shows all that. The one document that’s able to do that is a curriculum vitae for internship and this article will teach you all that you need to know in order to make one.

How to Make Your CV for Internship

Remember that the whole point of making the CV is to show your prospective employer that you’re a person who deserves the internship spot. This means that you’ll have to go out of your way and provide whatever information you think will help you get the job. Which is why it’s important that you learn what you should place into the document.

So here are a couple of steps that will help you create a proper CV for an internship:

1. Start by Placing Your Personal Details

From the very beginning, you’ll want whoever is going through your CV to know exactly who he or she is reading about. Which is exactly why you will need to provide information about yourself that will help readers know who they’re dealing with.

So you’ll want to start with your name. Be sure that you include your first name, last name, and even your middle initial so that the reader will know exactly who you are. Then you will also have to provide your address as this will tell the reader where you’re located. This information is useful as it will tell the reader as to whether the distance from your place to the office is too far or even if it’s within the same area. So provide the street name, zip code, city, etc.

And lastly, include your contact details in the CV. You’ll want your prospective employer to have a means in which he or she may contact you in the event there’s news (good or bad) about your internship application. This means you’ll need to put in your phone number, house number, and any email addresses that you’re currently using.

2. Create your Profile

When you’re creating your profile, you shouldn’t make it too long where it will overwhelm the reader. Keep it to within five sentences and make sure that it explains what you need it to. It should introduce who you are, explain why you are interested in this internship, and what your career aspirations are.

Make sure that whatever you’ve written down shows that you’re focused on acquiring the internship position. Take note that you’re trying to tell your prospective employer who you are in the briefest way possible, so do exactly that while and make sure that you share whatever you need to.

3. Share Your Key Skills

This is where you’ll be placing your greatest strengths into the CV. You have to make sure that whatever skills you place is relevant to the internship that you’re applying for. Because let’s say that you’re applying as an intern at a journalism department. The people over there won’t care if you have excellent cooking skills.

Also, try not to cram all of your key skills and talents into one huge paragraph. What you should do instead is make use of bullet points that can help highlight what you’re good at. This way, your CV won’t look clunky and your prospective employer will appreciate the effort you’ve made to ensure that he or she will have an easier time going through the document.

4. Include the Education You’ve Acquired

Now, this is the part where you’ll have to show what educational level you’ve managed to acquire. There are some internships which will require that you have a certain degree of education, meaning that you’ll have to make sure that you’ve attained the education for the internship that you’re aiming for.

This means you’ll have to place the names of the educational institutions that you’ve attended or are currently attending, the dates in which you’ve attended them, and your grade point average. Remember that an internship which consists of more difficult tasks will require a higher level of education. So if you think you don’t meet the necessary qualifications, then find another internship that doesn’t demand much from you.

5. Write About Your Previous Work Experience

If you’ve already worked as an intern from a previous company, then you’ll have to include that in your CV. When describing any previous employment or work experience, you need to list down any key responsibilities that you’ve had.

You want to show exactly how you’re fit for the job, and providing the skills that you’ve developed or the achievements that you’ve gained from previous work experience will definitely help out with that. You should give start and end dates for each job that you’ve previously held. Remember that whatever you put into the document has to be relevant to the job that you’re applying for. If it isn’t, then don’t include it.

6. Talk About Your Interests

This is the part where you’ll want to humanize yourself to the reader. In this section, you outline what it is that you do aside from work. If you have any interest that you think could help you acquire the internship, then, by all means, put it in the CV.

7. List Down Your References

Now, this is important as the employer that will be going through your application will want to contact your references to see if you’re exactly who you say you are. And that’s a reason as to why you have to be very careful with who you want to put down as your reference. Make sure that the people you’ve picked have a good amount information to know who you are and what you are capable of.

Make sure that you put in their complete names as well as their contact details as that’s the only way that your prospective employer will be able to contact them.

8. Proofread Your CV

You want to make sure that you don’t repeat whatever information you’ve already managed to share with the reader. This means that you will need to go through everything and fix anything that seems off to you. You want the reader to know just how much effort you put into making a quality CV. Also, always keep the tone of positive as nobody will want to read a CV that contains nothing but negativity or one that doesn’t even have a polite tone.

9. Edit and Edit

Do you want to show your prospective employer a professionally-made CV right? Well, the one way for you to do that is if you check the document for any mistakes pertaining to grammar or spelling and fix them right away. You’ll want to go through it at least twice to ensure that you won’t miss any.
